Labour calls for ban on early foetus sex test

This is ridiculous. I’m going to find out the gender of my baby and love it regardless. Gender bias isn’t something that is part of modern British culture. If there are minorities that do this it should be addressed amongst those communities not spoil it for the tolerant majority.

It is when families seem to have all of one sex. I’ve heard parents say they’re having one more to see if they can get a boy or a girl as all the others a of one sex. There are some unscrupulous people who would do this unfortunately.

It sounds like, instead of changing the laws, you should be more diligent in the type of people you are letting in to your country!!!!

How do you know they aren't people who are 10th generation or more British? The days of wanting a son to "keep the family name going" haven't completely left, especially among the entitled. Until 2011 female royals were passed over in favour of younger brothers in the line to the throne.

To all the South Asian communities, educate the girls, make them independent socially and financially. U will absolutely not find any difference between a daughter and son.

Seems like it's the parents' business..... maybe more people should mind their own.

How would you go about persuading the parents of a girl who only wanted a boy to raise and love a child they now don’t want, Patrick?

Really, well this has to be a man thing or stupid religion.. do people ever wander where the boys come from!! We need women to give birth to them... I’d much rather have a girl than a boy!!

Unfortunately it's neither in most cases. I was pretty angry (to say the least) when i was hearing older women in the community saying things like "they had another baby girl, poor family" or "shes pregnant again because she had a girl first, at least now there's a chance she'll have a boy". Made me sick to my stomach to hear.

I don’t understand this culture, common sense says, without girls there’s no boys what future is that?

I know. It seems pretty odd but in some cultures the family of a woman has to pay a dowry (maybe similar to having to pay for the wedding here traditionally). So having many girls without boys to “off set the cost” can be very expensive (especially for a family that is poor). Not that it’s an excuse for aborting healthy female fetuses purely for being female but that’s the cultural background to this phenomenon.

Now that I’ve had my daughter (she’s four days old) I can’t believe people are doing this to their baby...and over gender!

If there are less girls in the world. Who are the boys going to get married to. Their has to be a balance of both male and female.

archaic tradition that prizes males. one of those we could benefit from throwing into history's castoff bin.

However...retain the medical option to test for gender linked genetic abnormalities when using in vitro.

Milek Zamaš use Google.
Some incurable abnormalities are predominantly male. They can be screened for.

When I was living in east london, and pregnant with my now 24 year old daughter. The hospital would not tell you the sex of the baby, the reason I was informed was certain religion's would abourt the females. The only time I was told about what sex I was carrying was when I moved. I now have 4 birth children ( 3 girls and a boy) and 2 step daughter's and I love them all.

That's odd, my daughter was born at St Georges in south west London the same year but they had no problem telling us. We weren't gone ask but they offered and of course we couldn't resist the temptation
.

But what about those that need to find out for genetic reasons? A family member recently needed to find out as if the baby had been a boy he would have carried a specific gene which meant that he would need specialist care as soon as he would have been born. The birth would have needed to be in a specialist hospital and high dependency, this would have all needed to have been pre planned with precision. Fortunately this wasn’t the case but I’m sure for many others it has been.

I don't have children and I don't want any but if some how I was I'd definitely want a girl. I can't get my head around Asian cultures that put so much value on success in education and then would want a boy who generally do worse in their exams across the board. Males are the weaker sex in modern society where brain power wins! How don't they see that?

My dad didn’t want my mom to have any more girls after my sister & I but now all he ever talks about are his daughters and cringes every time anyone mentions our little brother. Karma? idk.

I’m shocked that this is a concern in England. I know that people find out but mostly to be prepared and do there shopping. I think if the sex of the baby plays a major part of why you are having children then please do us all a favour and don’t have them! Having a baby isn’t like having a nose job, oh I don’t like my nose so I’ll get a new one??? To abort a baby based on their sex is so wrong. Just wrong.

So weird, considering I want a girl more than a boy. I know some cultures prize boys more, but you shouldn't take this test away from everyone else.

This makes me angry I didn't find out 21 yrs ago what I having I wanted a surprise and to my joy I had a girl then 16 month later found out was pregnant again so me and hubby decided we wanted to know at the 20 week scan and it was a boy I felt blessed to have 1 of each he is 19 next week and I love both of them to bits children are a blessing.

Well that means they don’t love their baby and probably trying to get a council house as for any normal mother would love their baby no matter what sex.

Unfortunately in some parts of the world females treated this way and seen as a burden on the family so it’s no surprise this is happening over in this so called multi cultural society:).

Well I did early blood testing out of curiosity, results said it was a girl at 13 weeks...however at my 20 week ultrasound it was determined that was most definitely a lie. So don’t trust the early results folks!

I had an early fetal gender test. (DNA test) I just wanted to know gender so I could find a name and prep the nursery.

Surely it's the medical practitioners that need to be held responsible for this happening. If there is no medical, mental or otherwise, reason for aborting a baby then they should refuse. You have a right to take the morning after pill and have a certain time to choose an abortion. To carry a child until you know it's sex and then abort because it doesn't suit you at that time should never be able to happen. If there is proof that this is being done then both doctor and parents should be put in prison.

Am I strange that I'm not finding out at my 20 week scan? My husband doesn't care either way and I'd rather not know. I'm British and in my pregnancy group on Facebook I think about 30 to 50% of us aren't finding out.

I don't get gender reveal either. Why did it matter what they have between their legs?
