Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court, passed away peacefully at her home in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 25, 2023. She was 92.

O'Connor was born in El Paso, Texas, on March 26, 1930. She graduated from Stanford University Law School in 1952, and she worked as a lawyer in Arizona for many years. In 1975, she was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals by Governor Raul Castro. In 1981, she was nominated to the United States Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan, and she was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 99-0.

O'Connor served on the Supreme Court for 24 years, retiring in 2005. She was a swing vote on many of the Court's most important decisions, and she is credited with helping to shape the Court's jurisprudence in areas such as abortion, affirmative action, and campaign finance.

O'Connor was a trailblazer for women in law and in public service. She was a role model for generations of young women, and her legacy will continue to inspire for many years to come.
