In general, the design and calculation of vacuum system is based on the total outgassing quantity Q, and according to the characteristics of metallurgical process, the nature of gas source should also be taken as the basis of design. That is to say, the quality and quantity of gas source should be combined to determine the design scheme.

In the process of vacuum smelting, the gas source is characterized by high temperature and a large amount of dust, oxygen, hydrogen and sometimes corrosive or toxic gases. Therefore, in some systems, it is usually equipped with dust remover, filter, chemical assembly and low pressure, and sometimes the pipeline needs water cooling. Some corrosive gases, such as the process of haimianqin, emit hydrogen chloride. The corrosion of dust on the mechanical pump oil and pump body parts is very serious, so that the pump oil has to be replaced frequently. According to the process requirements, the vacuum system composed of roots pump and water ring pump has good effect. In addition, there is the problem of discharging steam. If the vacuum system starts to be evacuated from the atmosphere, it starts to deflate at 1 ~ 10-1 Torr, while when 10-1 ~ 10-2 Torr, the surface mainly deflates water vapor in the air. This problem can be partly solved by pneumatic pump. In the ultra-high vacuum system, there is more hydrogen in the residual gas, so zirconium aluminum suction pump can also be selected.

The vacuum system can be brought into full play by selecting appropriate pumping equipment according to different gas source properties.
